HowToApply

We are pleased that you are interested in the Northwest Institute’s programs. For more information about each individual program, please visit Our Programs. The application process for each program is fairly similar. Students are required to answer several questions intended to gauge your interest, knowledge and, most important, enthusiasm. You may write your answers, or some of students choose to submit a video application instead. Check out what Caitlin Clay, Brown University ’08, said to get herself accepted.

The application is intended to introduce us to you—your civic interests, your knowledge about the media, and your optimism. You do not need to have any prior media experience. Many of our students have never picked up a camera or microphone before. But we do want to know that you want to learn!

Perhaps the most important part of your application is your Instructor and Peer Recommendations. You should chose three persons who can best speak about your abilities and passions. If an employer or a supervisor is most qualified to speak about these qualities, feel free to substitute an evaluation from him or her in place of one from a teacher or professor.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as possible. We do conduct interviews for each potential attendee. For students residing outside the immediate area, our Selection Committee will conduct the interview via Skype.

Please visit Our Programs pages for an application to the specific program that interests you. And please Contact Us with any further questions. We look forward to seeing your application soon.
